what kind of algea are you talking about? does it form a film on the glass and decorations or is it a stringy, hairy type. Probably your best bet in either case is a pleco... or if your fish will tolerate them snails are good for algea as well. Otherwise water changes to lower nutrient levels in the tank, and scrubbing is the only other way. There are chemical additives that claim to work but I dont like adding chems to the tank personally.

I recommend some kosher hotdogs, they go really well with brown algae. Don't overdo the salt... Image

Yuk Joe!!!!
I prefer hot chili and "American" mustard on my hot dogs, no salt Image

Yeah snails are good, I got a couple that keep the inside glass clean as a whistle.
As Adam says depends on whether your fish will tollerate them

It depends on the size of the snail vs the size of the oscar and on your fishes personality... some O's hate snail (or love as the case my be) and will gladly eat them, other ignore them completely your best bet would be to introduce very large snails to the tank while the oscars were still very small so they could not be a meal, then they would be used to them as adults and would be less likely to eat them.

They are relatively cheap so you could always try 2 or 3 and see how it goes if they survive then go get some more Image

Hey Melanie, actually Adam had to tone down that image a little, because you know the "original" untouched image was just so grossly horrifying Adam still has nightmares about it!
