What to put in a 55?

Postby Jamie on Tue Jun 11, 2002 9:15 pm

I just got a 55 gallon for 60 bucks with all the equipment included. Now I have to decide what to put in it... I want something that likes really hard water since my tap water is always like 8.4.
Africans are an easy choice but I don't really like them Image The only africans I like alot are the frontosas and living stonii. would a 55 gallon tank be big enought for a couple frontosa or 1 living stonii?
I was also thinking a RD or jag. I read some places that I should have a 90 while others say a 55. what do you guys think?

well fronts get like 14", and i'm pretty sure they need at least a 65, one RD would be perfect for your 55, a jag would also need around a 65. i would go RD if i were you.

Yeah a 55g cant really hold more than one of the larger cichlids like the oscars, red devils,Jaguar cichlid etc. Defitanatly not a good sise for a wolf cichlid(dovii).
Africans would be the go given your ph but since you dont like them perhaps some convicts and jewel cichlids.
