im looking for some sort of fish to feed my Oscar. it has to be about 1-3 inch in lenght, and able to survive in a 64-66 degree tank. just out of curosity, can convicts live in 64-66 degree water?

swordtails are live bearers and can live in cold water. They also breed easy too.

Yea convicts will easily live in that water temp, they are a very hardy fish and easy to breed might I add. Swordtails/guppies/mollies are all easy to breed live bearers also, you might want to try to set up a tank consisting of that and use them as feeders, they are colorful and kinda pretty fish too.

does anyone know when the convicts will kick out the fry? i've heard that they'll start when they're ready to spawn again. im consern beacuse the fry are about 1/4 in. in length and theres only 17 left (from 30). its about maybe 3 wks since the birth of the fry.

At that size, guppies are a good choice, if u buy 50, treat the water good and get the fish healty (prob 35 survive) then give a month and you'll prob get around 40 babies a month, use larger scale if nessessary. I use a 10gal and it works fine, but use good filtration and feed well or the guppies will eat most of the babies. gl.... also if u want to use a heater you can (will do well from 65-80) and you can keep the same temp of your main tank to prevent dying if you want to feed a lot at once and leave them to pick them off over a couple days. I would recommend black mollies. You can buy 5 small ones and are pretty much guarented to have fry. Very easy to take care of and generally are a hardy fish.
