Veggies for fish....

Postby Vaulen on Sat Jun 04, 2005 2:51 pm

I read that pacus and tinfoil barbs like to eat plant matter. Mine are pretty small and I'll like to see if they'll eat it. How should I introduce them to veggies? And should I cut em up or something? Any veggie suggestions to feed them would be nice too. Thanks

Veggies for fish....

I recently found that my Oscars and Dempseys really like cucumbers (my plecos love them). What I found was the easiest way to feed these to my fish was to slice them into discs about a 1/2" wide. Then I took a suction cup (like the ones on the back of most heaters) with a small S type hook around the stub end, sucked it to the glass and then would hook the slice onto the hook so it kinda just floats there and the fish eat it off the glass. Cucumbers float that's the reason for the suction cups. Warning: they will get very mushy if left in the tank more than a day. Good luck!

The easy way for smaller fish is to just buy veggie flakes.

For real vegtables alot of people have good luck feeding peas although you might have to squeese off the skin for small fish.

Veggies for fish....

I found it even easier if I got Baby Food Veggies and froze them using one of those cocktail size ice cube trays. When I want to feed my fishies veggies I just float a cube or two in the tank and they go crazy. No mess no fuss!
