Sexing Frontosa's

How can u sex Frontosa's? If you check out the pics of Gazuks Frontosa's in the photo gallery they pretty much look exactly like mine, I sooooo hope they are a pair. I have fallen in love with my Frontosa's they are great fish! What is the best diet for these guys? x

In regards to diet, frontosa's do well on a varied quality diet.

I feed mine primarily new life spectrum pellets but also provide them the following frozen foods: mysis shrimp, krill, and frozen prawn. On some occasions chopped up raw shrimp (from seafood section of the supermarket), and also high protein flake food (I feed them ocean nutrition's formula one).

Have been feeding mine, cichlid pellets, and occasionally they eat some of the koi pellets I feed to my barbs. Freeze died tubifex and brine shrimp, as a treat a couple of cockles, but have just dicovered that they mad for frozen brine shrimp. Usually my Frontosa's are slow eaters (I have read that this is usually the case). I got the fish really cheap as they had been underfed and not looked after very well so have been trying to condition them. Thier belly's are now the shape they should be rather than massivly indented, but I've been increasing thier diet slowly to re-build thier appetite. Was totally shocked at thier reaction to the frozen brine shrimp. I'm gonna try them on a little raw beef heart and if they like it, will feed them this once a week! How long have you had ur Frontosa's and what size are they? Do you know how to sex them?

If you have the opportunity, try mysis shrimp, which is considered more nutritious than brine shrimp. They're also a bit larger than brine shrimp.

Your fish will probably eat the beef heart but may have problems metabolizing it which could result in health problems in the long run.

I've had my frontosa's for a little less than two years. I got them when they were about 1.5" and they're 5" to 7" now.

I'm not experienced with it but I've heard venting them is an effective way to determine gender (easier with mature fish than with juvies).

i feed mine on cichlid diet brine shrimp and trout pellets. they go mad for the sinking trout pellets.

i get the trout pellets from my local fishing tackle shop and its real cheap and it builds the fish up.

ive always used them on all the cichlids ive had even the discus i had.

sexing fish isnt easy i useually watch the fish and the one who dominates the tank is useually male then the ones he bullys are probly male and the ones he can swim past without attacking are probly female.but the only sure fire way of nowing what is what is when they spawn imo.

me i just wait and see then there are no faulse hopes.
