Hey all. I am new to this forum but found it when I was researching some info on protecting my convicts' egg's from my other fish. I have 110 with three convicts, a rather large jack dempsy and a huge placo pleco ( not sure how to spell it). The three convicts and the Jack Dempsy came with the aquarium when i purchased it from a friend. Two are males and one is a small female. I was told that they have had babies before and they have all been together, minus the placo, for about three years. We have some terracota pots in the tank and also some ciclid caves. In the past few weeks the males have been aggressive toward each other and one of the males (scarface) and the female have been "buddying up" together. Tuesday morning when I turned the lights on I noticed alot of dark dots stuck to the inside of one of the pots. So, my question is, about how long will it take for them to hatch and are there any precautions i should take to protect them or leave it up to the parents? Also, is the father supposed to be that protective over them aswell? I know she is very protective, we cut the bottom of the pot out so it is like a tunnel on the far left side of the tank and she has moved some rocks inside and will even bite at scarface (the father i presume) if he gets to close. I know people have said that they can have anywhere from 100 to 500 babies, but it only looked like she maybe had 50 eggs? ANY info like what to feed the babies, water levels/temp or any other misc. information about convicts or there spawn and what to do with them!! Thanks and wish me luck!!
