TEXAS CICHLIDS HAVE BALLS!!!

Postby wolfgang on Sat Aug 18, 2001 9:03 am

MY TEXAS cichlid laid eggs friday
which blew my mind because (he)?
was a dude i thought, but anyway thursday night he totaly moved all
the plants and rocks in my tank.
i also hve a 5 1/2inch tiger oscar
in a 25 gal (tall) tank that has been
his comrade since i have had the tnk
dont give a damnabout anything that
he aint gonna eat.well anyway i went to straighten my tank out and found
out tex-cichlids are some nasty little mf-er's when they lay eggs
after i got his lips off my pinky
she decided that my oscar was needing
a can of something called whoop-***
opened on him,she is about half my oscars size, but that didnt stop her
from pushing her mouth up to his
and trying to push him back,
the oscar lt her kinda get cocky for
a minute, and then he kinda cocked
his body sideways opened his mouth
all the way and swam at her and showed her that he could open a bigger can of whoopass than her ad pushed her back,
she never stopped going after him
till finally i saw that the oscar
figured out that her head would fit in his mouth, and anybody that has an oscar knows what that means...
she would have went from roomate to
food,i put her in my feeder tank and put the plastix-log that she laid all her eggs on,problem solved for now i thoght, about an hour later i went to give the oscar a couple of(live) fish
to eat but for some reason they were
really easy to catch, and they werent sleeping...
she usaly eats 1 fish even when i have a bunch of them in her tank, this time she killed 21 of them and left
them headless aaand floating, say what you want about all these different types of aggressive fish
i had5 pirahanas when iwas a kid
they dont even hold a close 2nd to these cichlids,i wish my dog had her attitude....

Hi Bill,

Cool post. I like your writing style. Maybe you can write some articles we can post on the website, was fun reading. And yea my oscars will bite heads off the feeder fish when they're laying eggs, they're not interested in them as food, they just see them as a potential danger to their eggs.

cichlids tend to be a little "ego-testical" ecspecially when they decide to breed. Image
