Texas Cichlid laying eggs--what to do?

Postby jimmy on Sun Mar 11, 2001 11:56 pm

I have recently purchased two texas cichlids. I have only had my tank set up for a about 2 weeks. I also have 2 oscars, 2 green terrors, 2 rainbow cichlids, and 2 jewel cichlids. I have an 80 gallon aquarium. All of these fish are small (less than 3 inches). The texas cichlids are the largest at about 3".
Anyway, my texas cichlids started pairing up and hanging out at the back of the tank. Now they have layed eggs on a rock. What do I do? Should I move the eggs and the fish to a breeding tank? I am new to this and need some advice. Is the female in danger from the male? Is the brood in danger? Any advice and info is much appreciated. I was also wondering if there are any good websites on the breeding of texas cichlids.
Thanks
jimmy
