Strange Fungus (or something) Problem

Postby OscarTheGrouch on Wed Jun 29, 2005 9:26 pm

I have a 10 gallon tank with a bunch of fancy guppies, yesturday one of the females looked like she'd developed some white coloured fungus on her side just up from the tail, I put some melafix in the tank and when I looked at her today the fungus turned into a pretty big fuzzy ball kind of thing, when I went to scoop her out to go in a hospital tank the thing fell off taking with it a patch of scales, and leaving behind a big open gash, I'm sure it's probably too late for her but I really want to find out what it is and if it's contageous, and how to cure it.

Thanks for any help I can get........what!?

Sounds like a body type fungus.
These usually grow on alread damaged areas.
It is quite possible, that the fish got a scrape, and the fungus then developed. In most case's this is not a serious issue, and should not give any problems to the other fish. There are many types of meds for this, the best method is to dab a small amount of the meds directly on the effected area.

Thanks Fuzzy....

She did die like I thought. But it's nice to know that it's probably not a disease.;)
