Getting them to tango...

Spawning Colors

Postby Hippolyta on Sat Sep 23, 2000 2:20 pm

My oscars were acting like they were going to spawn for the first time. They did this for about 3-4 weeks but got disturbed a lot.One is white and the other is a ruby red.During the whole ordeal the ruby red made it's green and black parts very pale and it's red parts very red.Now that they have stopped this spawning type activity the ruby re is a normal color again.Anybody ever see anything like this before?

Spawning Colors

Hi Hip,

Well the whole color changing thing is no surprise but I've only had one young albino. You can really tell mood changes with tigers. I find when they are really happy and stress free they will turn a deep black again like they were when they were small. Red will look nice too on the balck contrast. When in spawning mode, it's almost liek they catch on fire, all the black goes and they turn a greenish pale , black around and the red within eyespots intensify etc...it's really great watching their rituals.
