Chances are you do not have a good biological setup going currently. I would recommend getting some biozyme which is pure bacteria. That will get your bio going to top shape and take care of your water smell. Biozyme is only $1.99 so its really cheap. Good luck

usually tanks tend to smell if they are not being filtered correctly. as S42K said, the biological bacteria colony is not established very well. it might not be establishing because you clean the filters too often, not allowing bacteria to develop and stay in the tank, but it is probably because you need more filtration for a 55 with 2 oscars. if you get another filter, this will help out a lot, and you can alternate weeks cleaning each one, so you always will have some bacteria taking care of business in the tank.

I've also heard that if you are sure the biological filtering is good(biological is usuallthe cause for smelly tanks) then try carbon.

Also t0o get really good biological filtering get an emp 400 and get cell pore inserts for it.

TigerO`srule is right in regards to using carbon to get rid off the smell. I sometimes get that smell in my smaller tanks and once in a while in my bigger tanks even though all tests are ok.I have found that by changing the carbon once a weeks eliminates that smell as its life span seems to be short lived. I also would recommend a seperate bio filter as well. You could use a bio wheel or an air driven twin sponge type which is cheap and I have found to be a great help. Th only thing is in smaller 30 to 55 tanks they take the look away from your aquascope.
