Getting them to tango...

Signs of Birth

Postby Indy on Fri Aug 26, 2005 9:09 pm

I have a very fat, very pregnant Platy in my breeding tank. I have had livebearers give birth before but I have never seen it happen.

What are some tell tale signs she is about to give birth, within minutes? I have been watching her and I would like to see her give birth to the fry.

Signs of Birth

hey man, hows things?

erm, i kept guppies for a few months before i was over run (i was trying to create a completly yellow male, tellow skin and yellow finned... and then create a yellow skinned male with blue fins.)

basically, the females stomach will turn dark black (and in some cases youll see the fry inside her)

shell lose all interest in food a few days before hand,

and on the day or two before shell go into hiding

on the day other fish will start hastling her (they know that live foods a comin')

so basically, wait for her to disappear, but be careful cos moving her will cause her to postpone the birth... wierd fish are the live bearers.

any one know if their more highly evolved then other fish or are they less evolved?

hope that helped man
