CichlidFish.com - Fish That Think.

Hey can someone tell me whats wrong with my red devil. its about 3 years old, 10 inches long, his fins are all messed up but it may be due to fighting with my pacu. hes in an 80 gallon tank with only the pacu. hes having trouble swimming, but when i feed him he eats. i noticed his fins twitching, and sometimes rubs up against the gravel. right now hes just laying on his side under a log, but like i said, he'll come out when i feed him. let me know what ya think, thanks

IF you do your weekly OR bi-weekly tank cleanings and water changes on this tank, then I would say it is the Pacu picking on the RD.. surpising really that the RD is letting him.. HE is hiding to avoid the pacu.. SO the choice is for you to GET another tank ASAP  or keep only one... It is not going to get better, just worse.. I would keep the RD as they are just great cichlids to have.. ALTHOUGH I do have Midas really, I do have one female RD.. That pacu is really a monster fish that wil out grow your 80 gal fast and KILL  anything you place in the tank and eat it.. the RD will do the  same but hey, he is prettier to look at.. A pacu is like a feeding monster that just isn't that great to look at really,, But thats just me...

UP to you though.. find a home for one or the other OR the RD may not make it.. MelaFix/primaFix together for a good 4 to 7 days wil help him heal faster and grow back some new fins..  Take out your carbon in the tank..
