sick oscar

Postby Ariel99 on Sun Feb 03, 2002 10:34 pm

hello.
My albino oscar is sick. I have consulted with Tony and have followed his directions.
I think my Piggy is near the end b/c his eyes are clouded and the water changes do not seem to help.
Symptoms began when the tank was treated with Melafix for my tiger oscar's mouth fungus. Carbon filters were removed for 7 days.
Other fish are fine.
Piggy has been gasping and now has dark patch-like areas around his face area.

I don't know why this happened. He's been a good fish.

Any last suggestions or experiences would be appreciated.

THANKS!!

I would put carbon in the water immediately to get that Melafix out of the water... my suspicion is that if it started after the treatment your fish my be alergic to the Melafix, and so it is the meds that are causing the problem.... add carbon, 1tbs of salt per 5 gallons of water and raise the temp to 82-84*. That should clear up both of the problems at once... and dont ever use the melafix again just to be safe.

Yeah definatly try and get an air stone near him. I still think the water changes I suggested are his best hope. To me it sounds like a nitrate or other form of spike which is shocking him.
This may have been bought on using the melafix in the tank as meds tend to upset the tank parramaters.
Hope all goes well Image
