I have an 8" gold severum that is sick, but I don't know exactly what it has, so not sure what to do. It looks like the base of one of the fins is swollen and has raw/red spots on it. He won't eat, and the rest of his fins are clamped. I have done a water change, added aquarium salt and raised the temp to 82 degrees. What do you think it is and how can I help him?

Sort off hard to put my finger on this one. Id be treating for bloat myself but you might want to use a broad spectrum antibiotic just incase. Adam can probably give a better diagnosis from his diease book

Ok my best guess from what your discription is your fish has an infection of Costia.

treatment is easy, just use 1 tbs of salt to every 5 gallons of water and raise the temp up to 84 degrees. If this doesnt work then dose with copper sulphate at the recommended dose on the bottle, continue treatment for a week or until symptoms clear.

Success!....followed your directions, put him in an isolation tank (he really hated that 10 gallon tank) raised the water temp to 84 and added salt....he is much better, appears to be 95% healed....am so grateful for your help...thanks
