I recently set up a 40 gallon. Its only has one 6 inch reddevil in the tank. For filtration i use two aquaclear 200 filters.Should i add a magnum 250 canister filter.I also wanted to kno,is it good for reddevils to eat beef heart or little balls of raw meat.

Filtration: recommended x5 for cannisters, x10 for internal or HOB ... so 40g tank want to cycle the tank 10 times an hour for HOB, 400Gph.  So your 2 x 200's should be OK but you can never have too much filtration !!

Diet: you can't beat the recommended cichlid pellets as the staple food for a cichlid, supplemented by treats (beefheart included) now and again.  I feed my Oscar (and others) on Tetra Doromin (Hikari gold is well recommended) supplemented by bloodworm, earthworm, prawn and spare fry from my own disease free tanks, I would never dream of dropping raw meat into the tank.

As for tank size, the red devil in an aquarium will grow to over a foot and, at 6 inches in size, your tank is already getting too small.  With it's more aggressive nature if you are to have any tank mates you will need a larger tank still.  Perhaps Barb will correct me, but I think anything less than 75g for a single is too low but preferably bigger as (IMO) it is not right to keep a fish in solitary confinement

I agree with everything Altaaffe said, but the tank size.. FOR NOW he is fine, but in a years time OR  at 12" TAIL and all, you are going to need a bigger tank.. My pair of Midas where in a 55 gal for years, but one day I saw daddy midas was touching both front and back of the tank, and his lips were smashed some..He is 5 yr old.. SO I finally got them into a 75 gal that had my other big American cichilds in, sold some, moved the others to their 55 gal.... This 75 gal is a huge tank and he should live out his life their.. So later and IF you have the room, get a 75 gal for him, you wil like it..
TANK mates?? NONE!! They dont' play well with others, even in a big tank.. NOW if you had done more in with him at an early age, HE MIGHT have gotten along with them.. Most ppl find however, that they have to place them by themselves or find another home for them as they just get mean with all the others in the tank.... I have a female RD now in a 55 gal with a JD.. She is just a brute, so I have a divider in..
The midas 55 gal..LOOKS roomy, but not when dad the white one, went vertical..
Image
NOW in the 75 gal..That cave is for mom midas as he just wants to spawn and wil hurt her if she can't get away.. Also, he has caved it in so now she has a strawberry pot. the one in the JD tank...

The RD/JD 55gal.. I like the RD but must make other arrangements later...All the plants are gone. they didn't like them..

Your filters are fine with just the RD. watch what you feed thou and clean them after you feed them any kind of messy meals. beefheart in my opinion is a mess, not a benefit for any cichlid to eat..Stay with pellets... I run 2 Emperor 400 filters on my tanks 55 gal and up..  You do need an air supply, a single outlet and a long airstone 6" or so and place it along the back of the tank, cover with gravel.. All of my tanks have air pumps..

Sure!! I have one in the 125gal.. I did have it in with the midas, but they dug it up trying to figure out what it was.. best to pile rocks/drift wood on it BUT dont' cover it up with a big one, smaler ones in a pile so the bubbles can get out looks pretty cool..
