Red Oscar Poll Please respond this is IMPORTANT data

Postby ruth53 on Fri Sep 29, 2000 4:16 pm

Hi I have two red Oscars, one is about 6",and the other one is about 3-4".On the young one I have noticed what looks like the start of a ocellus, and yes this is located at the base of the tail, but I must say that on the larger Oscar there are no such markings of any type.Hope this helps,oh while I am on have you ever come across on the bottom of the lip my larger Oscar seems to have what looks like a spot which is white,it looks like a pimple with a white head, befor he came to me as a gift from a pal he had been put with other large Oscars, some not so friendly, could it be a wound?
Thanks, Nigel.

I don't think it is a wound, both of my oscars developed such a structure as they got older. Are your oscars from the same place, as in fish store? Thanks for the info!

Not sure, but think my oscars may have the same "mole" thing on their chin......i thought it might have been like battered flesh tht got thick etc..from teh fighting, but who knows...maybe it's their manly "beard" as they age... :)

I think it's a horomonal thing they get as they mature then the males "mole things" just get even bigger along with their foreheads.

It has to do with their isthmus and jaw structure.

You can extrapolate their growth-ratio by doing a logrythmic regression on their corpus callosum, then feeding it through Oscorelli's equation to differentiate the strain of nystagmus causing the oscillopsia Image

I didn't say anything about penninusulas, I was talking about mandibular structure. My oscar has a deviated mandible because my other oscar felt it was necessary to displace it in an attempt to establish a dominance hierarchy.Anybody wanna discuss pharengyal teeth or Bowman's capsule? Then there's always the highly stimulating subjects of Schreckstoffzellen cells and the cellular composition of the submucosa and goblet cells.

Hip,

I was kidding about penninsula Image just joking around with you. I got what you meant by isthmus and know you were NOT referring to connections between bodies of land Image
For those who didn't get the joke,
a peninsula is a piece of land that projects into a body of water and is connected with the mainland by an isthmus. So you know Dr. Faellen Schreckstoffzellen? If you really want to talk about goblet proteins and their not so pleasant products, lets not use words like mucus or mucins but only "glycosylated proteins" and electrolyte solutions Image
For yo smokers out there, your lungs must be disgusting! yea smoke induces the goblet cells to 'let loose' Image hmmmmm....what forum is this?
