Is this the first time that they have layed eggs and if so they will probably eat their first batch. There's no need to worry though they'll have many more i recently had a batch of oscar eggs hatch and they lasted for 3 days before they were eaten good luck.

This is the second time our Red Devils have layed eggs/hatched. The first time we removed the fry and put them in a 5 gl. tank....they all died. We now have a 66 gl. tank with just the devils in it. So we should let mother nature take her course?

If removing the fry pay special attention to the filter you are using, they will get sucked up, so you need to add a sponge filter sleeve onto the uptake tube. Also they get easilly trapped under gravel, so a barebottom tank is best with fry. At that young age they are very susceptable, so add a fungal med containing melancholite Green or Blue.

Hope this helps.

I have tryed both, and I think its best to move them into a haching tank. Its important to add fungal medication like c4 says. You should try to feed them with Artemia if they hatch Image

Andre, as you have probably guessed, we are new at this game. You figure we should pull the parents from the 66 gl tank and leave the fry? Try to feed them and add the medication you subscribed? We are not sure what a "hatching" tank is. We have taken precautions with the filter suction and we do have rock on the bottom but I think we can live with that. I suppose we could remove the rock if necessary. Your suggestions are very much appreciated as we are pretty much rookies.

THANKS FOR YOUR ADVISE.

Acctually it is not nessesaryto feed the fry until they are free swimming. In the wriggler stage they are eating off of the yolk sac still and require no nutrients from you. Here is a set up that has worked well for me:

Take a 1 gal glass jar, add airstones and small heater, add water from parents tank, and add enough of the melancholiteblue to tint the water. Place the wigglers/eggs in here. change water 20% daily. Dont feed the wigglers as it pollutes the water and they don't need it.

Within 7-10 days they should be free swimming and ready for a 5 gal tank containing a filter with a filter sleeve. At this time you can start feeding them. The most common food is finely crushed flake and baby brine shrimp. There are liquid foods available, but they are more pricy (but not better) then the above mentioned.

Yes, you should only remove the rock with the eggs on into a small tank. But watch out, the Red Devils will properly attack your hands!
