Dollars grow relatively slowly. I asked the same question a few months back and someone (i don't remember who) answered that they would grow to about the size of a baseball in a year. Since then, a Dollar I have in my community tank has grown at a rate that suggests that is true.

I think Red Hooks will grow very, very fast, but that is only an assumption based on a group of these fish that are on display at the excellent South American aquatic exhibit at the zoo here in El Paso. They are very large (18? 24? inches) and got to that size in a short period of time.

Maybe -- but do some more research on your fish before you make that decision! We may be talking about different species. In other words, don't just take my word for it, research a lot of different sources first before you decide to get rid of them. It may be possible that several species can carry the name "Red Hook" (like a few carry "Pacu" and a few carry the name "Green Terror" but are completely different species), so do the research first!
