pump for 265 gal tank

Is there anyone out there that has any idea on what size pump I would need for a 265 gallon tank I just bought? I was thinking about a 600 gph pump. The filter on the tank has 2 large areas and 3 smaller areas and is approximately 24''x10''x 32". I am going to have to do more research on the filter. This was a custom tank and the filter was built on the backside of the tank.

IF I understand correctly it sounds like the tank has a built in wet/dry filter ?

If so 3 times the volume of the tank , turnover per hour should work (more can be an optional choice). So you should look for a pump that pumps about 800 gallons per hour.

but don't just look at the flow rate, look at the flow at the head height.

Usually decient pumps will have a chart something like

Just an example 5 gallon per minute pump
(head height)
7
6
5
4
3 *
3 4 5 6 7 (flow rate)

* = pumping at a height of 3 feet it's cut to 3 gallons per min

flow vs head height matters because most pumps are not set even with whereever they're pumping back too - some 800 gallon per hour pumps actually drop down under 200 gallons per hour at 3 feet of lift
