Lights too bright for your Oscar's? Try this DIY!

Hi all!

If your lights are so bright, your Oscars want their own set of RayBan's....here's a cheap & simple fix:

Use different grades of stick-on auto window tint on your glass top to achieve the amount of light reduction you want.

Like most 3' or longer tank, the lid of our 90g comes as 2 pieces.
I tinted the back halves of both pieces.
I've created a "heavy shadow" effect using Full Limo tint (90%) on the inside & outside, so Hoover's hideout (large bell deco) is shaded all the time.
The other half of the lid, I only put 2 small leaf shaped pieces on the underside to make a "sun dappled" look.

I also have a strip of Light Smoke (30%) that I taped at the back edge of that half of the lid, but left unattached at the front edge so I can roll it on or off.....
it works great to give that "cloudy day" or "late evening" feel to the tank.
Both Hoover, our sailfin pleco & Cheetah, our Bichir seem to appreciate it.

HINT- I only do the back sections of the lid - the non-opening part. That way if ya need the full brilliance, you can simply move your light hood forward & TADAAAAAAA! It's high noon in tankville.

Yes, it's me cross-posting again, but only trying to help.......
:D

Some other methodes ,people use that are cheap.

Wrap a light in electrical tape - striped like a candy cane, tighter stripes to block more light, looser striping to allow more light in.

Lay aluminum foil under the light(s) poke holes in it until only the desired amount of light is let through.

This is a great idea.

One thing that I do is to put pieces of 8-1/2 by 11 paper (20lb stock) between the light(s) and the cover, the light still gets through but it's a lot dimmer.
