Sick Blue-eyed

Postby Richard Platts on Tue Oct 18, 2005 7:01 pm

i've got a really nice looking Blue-eyed Cichlid (5-6 inches) in a 75-tank. Recently he has developed some funny symptoms. The Tank has been established without problems for over a year now. Levels look pretty normal.

Symptoms:

One fin developed a red patch just at the base, it has gottten worse and now looks to be a bump growing from the front and back of the fin base. It is swimming alright and eats like normal. Also, some red patch developing near the mouth. No other fish has symptoms.

I treated with Mela-fix as directed on the bottle, but got no result.

Tank mates are

another blue-eyed a bit smaller (3-4 inches)
oscar - 10in
2 silver dollars -2-3 in?
pleco - 8 inch.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP AS ALWAYS!

Hmmm.... getting worse.

Could it be a worm?

Can't guess at exactly what it is, but one of my severums had a similar symptom at the base of a pectoral fin. Might have begun with an injury, but I didn't witness it, so can't say for sure. Melafix did the trick. Are you following the directions precisely as to dosage, number of days for treatment, water changes, etc?
