ok i have just saved a poor little red forrest jewell from certain death. he has been living on algae for months in extremely bad water conditions (green) and no filtration at all. I am planning on giving him a 200 l filter in a small tank for a week or so to sort out his problems and introduce him to some friends later. could i put him in tank with a 15 cm oscar? is this possible? Will they kill each other? He is about 8cm long. can someone guide me to whether this is ok, and whether i should be doing something else to help this little fellow.

ok well i have put him in with my oscar (baby) for now, seems to be doing ok, except he doesn't seem to eat real food, due to his bad conditions, he tries to pick crap from the plastic plants and stuff. How should i feed the little bugger??? if anyone can help, please do.

i really doubt itll work, i put a small jewel in with my small oscar a year or so back, i woke up one morning to find a jewel, looking happy as a pig in muck, and an oscar at deaths door. their a very aggressive fish, ideally suited to a species tank... maybe youll get lucky and itll be fine, but i have my doubts im afraid.

good luck with it tho

Jewels do feed significantly on algae, so picking stuff of the plastic plants is pretty normal. Like Craig says, they can be mean little buggers, so keep an eye on interaction. How big is the tank they're in?

im actually finding the oscar is the aggressor, gives him a nudge and a chase often, however the jewell doesnt seem to be too worried about it, doesnt go away from him, so maybe it'll be a problem, but i am watching closely. at the moment they are in a 2ft tank (i know, too small) but am getting a 3 or 4 foot in about a week so they should be ok, i hope
