I don't mean to be harsh, but
[begin rant] we need to start thinking ahead when we plan aquariums. Problems like this occur when we fail to do the research while planning! These aren't just "fish", they are live animals that need to be cared for and given proper habitat. One hour of internet research before you go to the LFS to buy fish will tell you what you can and cannot buy. If you know that 3 cons are "bad" in a 30, and that an Oscar in a 55 will terrorize smaller fish (both facts easily researched), then you don't put the poor fish in that situation in the first place. Barb's suggestion in regards hiding places is good, but the real solution is to sell/give away the outcast male Convict or quickly buy him a new aquarium. If we would have done the same thing with predatory dogs in a small back yard, we could be fined and possibly jailed![end rant]
Research while planning a setup solves a lot of problems!
