Filtration Experiment

Postby Mark Stone on Tue Sep 27, 2005 1:54 pm

I went out and bought a corner filter, a Penn Plax box -- you mount it in the corner of the tank, install an airstone, and the airstone draws water through a small filter element. Succint, simple, --

So, to test it, I put it in one end of one of my 55s, and on the other end of the same tank I ran a new Penguin 350 Biowheel Power Filter. After 10 days, I tested the water at both ends of the tank -- and the water quality at both ends of the aquarium was identical!!! Proving, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that the Penn Plax corner filter is as effective as a 350gph Power Filter!!!!

I then tested the little corner filter against:

--Rena Canister Filter
--Magnum 350 canister filter with a Bio Pro 60 attachment
--Magnum H.O.T. canister
--AC 500
--City of El Paso Water Purification System (a little difficult to install, and messy)

And the little filter performed just as well as the larger, more expensive systems, according to my water tests! Nitrite, Nitrate, Ammonia -- ALL ZERO!!!!!

Ain't science great?!?

Mark,

I have been experimenting with this new powdered water guaranteed to be free of Nitrates & Nitrites and absorb Ammonia on contact.

I'll post the outcome of the experiment when I am done.
