Postby hunter74083 on Sun Aug 21, 2005 2:57 am

Well,, They have eggs again,, More than earlyer times,, The question is,, im not sure whats going on,, They are lip locking,, some scales are missing on the female,, they are chaseing each other from one end to the other,,Dont seem to be interested in eggs at all,, (I took some eggs out last spawn,, didnt hatch), Dont know if I should pull some eggs, (before they eat them) or just let them go.. Some times I wonder if I have 2 females !!!! But the eggs did change color,, was white when layed,, now tan color,, Any help will be appreciated,,,,Thanks

Sounds like (and looks like) you have fertalized eggs.
Myself, I would let the O's try again. Sometimes it takes a few spawns for them to get the idea. The Oscars will eat eggs that begin to get fungus. If all the eggs get fungus, then of course they will eat them all. From the pic, your water seems nice and clean, but I am curiuos as to your tank size, filter's and water conditions.
Also I didn't notice any tankmates, but pleco's are notorious for eating eggs.
This is more of a breeding type problem, so I will move the post to that section, it might get more notice from more experenced breeders than in the ER section.

Its a 55 gal. tall, with a Penguin 350 Bio-Wheel power filter system,, I do have a small pleco in the tank,,but they never let him close,,,(3in. pleco) We have seen the male eat the eggs,, and all were gone when we came home this afternoon,, I did put about 25 eggs in a hatch basket, and put it in front of the filter,, Maybe in 4 or 5 days,, I might see some poss. results,,, I think I will get a tank seperator,, Next time they spawn,, I will seperate the 2 Os

Sometimes thats is the only way, to remove the eggs, hopefully you will get some wigglers in the eggs. If not, seems like a good breeding pair you have, so I am sure you will have many more oppertunities.
