Beef Heart

Postby royhouser on Mon Aug 22, 2005 9:25 am

I made the beef heart this weekend, well kinda, and had a couple of questions. The instruction said to refrigerate then score, freeze, break apart, and store. However, after a day in the fridge there it's still pretty stick and the paper won't peel off of it without considerable mess. Should I put it in the freezer for an hour or so to harden it a bit and then score and complete the process? Or do I score throught the wax paper then take it off after it freezes?

As far as feeding, my little guy is only 2.5 to 3 inches so should I thaw then drop it in the tank? Do I just drop the 1x1 square in the tank and let the O pic at it as it thaws? I'm assuming the other 2 fish (Jack Dempsey and Firemouth) will eat it too so should I feed a bit more?

Just looking for a little guidance. Last time I had an Oscar I used almost exclusively feeder fish from a trusted sources, so this is all greek to me.

Thanks
Roy

i don't know what the experts would say but Ive fed mine frozen and unfrozen beef heart.  I give each one one 1 inch cube, then later ill give one cricket each, and then ill follow up with different kinds of pellet food as well as shrimp.  but like i said I'm no expert but it seems to work great for my Os.  waldo_dude :fish:
