Columbian Shark

Postby OscarTheGrouch on Thu Aug 18, 2005 7:55 pm

I have a columbian shark that has been swimming after my bala shark and I can't tell whether it is trying to nip at it or clean it. There's no obvious damage done to the bala shark, and it's the only fish in the tank that the columbian is doing it too. Any ideas??

Thanks

What are their relative sizes? These "sharks" will eat anything they can manage, so maybe he thinks he can. You do know that these need more & more salt in the water as they mature?

My Bala is about 6" long and the Columbian is about 3 1/2". I do have aquarium salt in my tanks, is that enough???

Well, my guess is that he's not trying to eat the bala. That's something, at least. Check out the Columbian Shark profile on Planet Catfish. That'll give you a more detailed account of the salt needs of these fish. They usually spawn in fresh water, then slowly make their way into salt water. By the time they're adults, they need a true saltwater environment.
