Live Plants with Snails Is that Possiable???

Postby daddyoscar on Mon Aug 15, 2005 12:14 am

I am getting ready to set up a New Community Tank.
And was wanting to add a couple of Snails and Cory Cats to the mix.
But I was also wanting to have Live Plants is this Fesable?
Will either one of the Snail or Cats harm the Plants in anyway?
If so are there any that won't?

I know you can Plant the Plants in small Clay Pots bought at your average garden Shop, but do you just put in your Gravel substrate for the Plants?
Or is it something special?
And do I have to anchor the Plants in anyway?
I heard it makes it eaiser to have them in Pots when you Clean your tank because that way you can move them in your tank and then put'em Back when you are done?

Thanks for your HELP...;)

Live Plants with Snails Is that Possiable???

when doing live plants it is best not to disturb the roots. leaving them in the pots is not a good idea as the roots do branch out so when you clean, you have to dig them up and it may put the plant in shock. I know I have done this. I saw a tank where they used Laterite for plants in a clear small glass/plastic bowls and when they cleaned just moved the bowls. The plants are growing and he can move them to where ever..you can use those sm. plastic plant drip trays, I have done this and it works fine.. ;)

On the snails eating them, they shouldn't, they should keep the algae ate off. Mine do. Now those big snails may break them as they climb. Not a good choice for a planted tank..
