My name is Lissa D. and I live in Hampton VA. I am a Marketing Director for a bowling center. I get to sell "FUN". I also get to be at home with my children and pets as well. I am recently remarried...just had our 1 year ann. on July 2. We are a blended family of 6 children! 4 boys (16,14,12 &11) and 2 girls (11 & 10)Our house is very active at times. We have 2 that live with us and 2 that visit us on a regulary basis and the other 2 live in another state and visit once a month. My husband works for the City. We have 1 dog (oops not supposed to call her that!) her name is Bianaca and she is a long haired chihauahua. She is just a doll. We have 1 cat named Daisy Mae and 1 fish...Oscar. I got Oscar about 2 weeks ago. He was doing great until a couple of days ago. I am afraid that we might be losing him. I have been reading the forums and talking with the pet store...and I must say you guys are must more knowledgable than the pet store!! If my O does pass away, I will try again, but not before getting as much information adn knowledge as I can to keep the risk to a minimum. I too will be posting alot of questions as I venture into this new passion. I have had fish in the past that did very well...just your normal old fish nothing fancey. I have to tell you that in the short time that we have had Oscar, I have come to love this species of fish! Very sociable very active and very personable.

Hi Lissa and welcome to the fourm.

There is a wealth of information here on the site in the different areas, and of course questions are always welcome. A very nice introduction on your part. I imagine you have a hopping house, but its good that you seem to have it all undercontrol. If you start a thread in the Oscar section, well will try and c if we can get Oscar on the mend.

Sorry to say that Oscar past away this afternoon. I posted a thread in the breeding section a couple of days ago because I wasn't sure what was going on. I have updated that thread and will start posting in the general section once I get another O.

Yes I actually just read the post Lissa. Sorry on your loss. I started at the top of the site, and worked my way down, otherwise I would have read it. I am curious, where your Oscar came from. Oscars in general are pretty hardy, and from what I read without knowing the actuall ammonia reading, the fish may have been ill from where you got the fish.
