Dead for No Reason

Have you ever had a fish die and you didn't know why? Well, I just did. One of my Tinfoil Barbs. He was swimming around happily with his partner when I walked by. The next time I walked by he was dead in the bushes. I have no idea why.

The only thing I can think of is I did a 30% water change this afternoon and forgot to put in the declorinator. Would that have killed him? That was about 4 hours ago, and I have done that in the past and it never killed fish. Water quality is good. Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 25, Ph 8.2.

He was about 8" and I only had him for about 4 months.

No other fish seem sick but I will keep an eye on them.

She looks very pregnant. That might have had something to do with it.

hey, yeah. your sword tail was really pregnant, probley miscarried and with that and the constant harasment from the male it will have resulted in her demise.

i had pair of kribs that i got about a month ago.

they got into full spawning colours, were being totally normal in the tank, just like little cichlids and then one day the male was hiding in the amazon sword clump at the back and the female was under the filter.

either way, as two weeks passed the male didnt move too much but the female returned to normal, even started displaying again and trying to hang out with her mate.

the male died and the female returned to hiding, but still feeding. and a few days later the female went belly up.

all i can blame it on is the failed spawning, they must have had a fight, and due to being seperated over a long period of time and not feeding well resulted in their demise.

its all the troubles of fish keeping eh?
