Im tryin to figure out a way to get my friends gar into my tank. He lives about 10 minutes from my house and i need to know if there are any problems with adding the gar to my already setup tank. Im talking about problems regarding the water the fish is in and the water its goin into. How should i go about doin this.

Hi, Matty. A gar, eh? Great fish if you have the space for it. Couple of questions for you: How big is the gar? Size could make a real difference as far as how to transport. What size tank are you planning to put it in, and what are the fish you already have in the tank? What kind of gar is it? What does your friend feed it?

its a 12 inch florida gar and im putting it into an oscar tank for about a week until i get a 125g. the 2 oscars are about 8inches and are in a 55g. im tryin to get that new tank as soon as possible. the thing is, my friend is moving and he wants to get rid of the gar by tomorrow.

Shouldn't be a huge problem. Pick up one of those small styrofoam coolers. Put some water from the tank he's in now -- doesn't have to be a lot, just enough to cover him. When you get him to your place, slowly add water from your tank till you have about a 50/50 mix -- this is to avoid pH shock. Once you get him in there, keep a close eye on him. Big cichlids will sometimes pick on gars, who are pretty much defenseless against them. Good luck. I love my gar.
