Has anyone tried to make your own aquarium. I have a red tailed catfish baby but he will probably need a new tank by the end of the year. I wanted to build a big one that will last awhile and not cost me an arm and leg. 100gl or bigger.

Is it worth doing it yourself, cost wise, ( i like projects so time isn't a concern)

Any tips or links would be greatly appreciated.

I found a link on the Garf site for a great walkthrough on building tanks, and think that its been discussed around here before, but I'm not sure where either is. I'll post back witht he Garf link or the link to thread as soon as I find either.

thank you for the article. I had already researched the cat (unfortunatly after i bought it), and am aware of the size. this is the reason i plan to start practicing building large aquariums now. =P
One question though, i live in south alabama (USA) and it stays reasonably warm to hot here, have you ever heard of anyone keeping these fish in an outdoor heated pond?

Not that particualr catfish but do know people do keep other kinds of catfish with simular needed water conditions in ponds. SOme do it with plecos over summer and bring them in at autum/winter
