everyones favourite catfish?

Postby Craig on Thu Apr 21, 2005 12:12 pm

hey everyone.

im just setting up a little catfish (peppered cory) breeding tank as my female is getting fat again and i wouldnt mind the challenge of raising fry over summer

and i got to thinking. i do love my catfish in general, and corys (especially the more exotic types) are probley my favourite.

i was wondering what everones favourite catfish is.

something that fits into any tank?
the most colourful bottom dweller youve ever seen?
or just something thats got an amazing personality?

dont be shy

My favorite is Pictus, but they sure are hyper. I don't keep any presently, but I may stick one or two in my community aquarium some day - - -:)

:D Well we all know you love the corys Craig, which is good,
myself I have never had any, and its always good when you share your advice with the other members here about them.

Myself, well if were talking about catfish, pictus are neat, however myself I find Red Tails sharks as my favorite bottom feeder. One reason I orignialy made my 60 gallon tank was to house a couple of Red Tails, somehow along the way though I never did get them.

lol, gotta love cories... and loaches... and farlowellas. but thats it.

all very cool fish full of personality and charm.

i absolutely despise plecos tho (thought id add a hate section to the post too:p ) . their aggressive, messy, clumsy and everything. they are however tough as old boots so make quite the addition to a big tank.

never kept pictus, but always wanted a few... might have to invest for the cat fish community.

I have a pair of BumbleeBee Catfish I think are pretty cool, they just look like little brown and tan sharks with whiskers heh. They do a nice job cleaning up after my oscars, which surprised me at first. I would have to say though out of all the catfish the african red tail is the most magnificent to behold. Pricey and large though...so I'll stick with my Bumbleebee's as my favorite :-P

I like my TSN a lot. Big, smart, gentle, good-natured. Trouble is you literally need a small lake to house them adequately. Not counting sharks, loaches, ropefish, etc, my current favorites are my Hoplo cats. Sort of like cory's on steroids. VERY active. Even come to the top for food. Great fish!
