I've got a 30 gal tank with one oscar, a power filter, and an undergravel. I'm considering replacing my power filter, what would be the best kind to switch to.

I would buy a bio wheel like penguine bio wheel. I currently use model 330 in my 60 gallon. I am going to buy a canister filter such as Fluval 404 which does bio, chem and mech. if you have the extra money go with a Eheim canister. I am currently building a 150 gallon and will use my 330 along with a canister filter system. With your 30 gallon you should be fine w/ a power filter and I wouldn't even bother changing it. Get two bio wheels to add to your power filter and you should be fine =)

Yep, like s42k says, get a biowheel, I found that they really help a LOT with keeping nitrite levels down....
