pictus cats aggressive?

Postby oscarphish on Fri Apr 01, 2005 4:59 pm

every source of research i've done says that pictus cats are peaceful, community fish. mine is about 4'' long, and seems to be territorial. he bites at the sharks or plecos(who are 3x the size) when they come into his area. he's not causing any harm, but just want to know if it can get worse as he grows. thanks.

Yeah, I read the same thing. Also, a friend of mine has 2 with some tiger barbs and bala sharks in a 29 gallon tank, and they have no problem. Sometimes, individual fish have odd personalities, and go against the grain. If thats the case, there is probably not a lot you can do aside from removing the fish, or getting a larger aquarium for him.

What size tank is it, and what are the inhabitants? Any fish can get irritable with tankmates when overcrowded. I wouldn't worry about him growing much more. I read that they only get 5" long (I don't know how trustworthy this information is, so feel free to question it), so you don't have much to go.

he's not a real problem, just thought is was odd. he lives in a 55 g tank w/ a bala shark, albino rainbow shark, 2 common plecos, dojo, and a chiness algae eater.

pictus cats aggressive?

Hi...i had 2 pictus cats in my old community set up and they didn't seem to be aggresive towards the other inhabitants.
What you can try (if you havn't already) is making a few hidey holes or caves for the cat to go in.being secure in a cave might settle its nerves.
