I notice there are point numbers under the post numbers on all members, what are they? How do they work? Why do we need them?

The points are used to redeem items from the store on site here. You get points from starting threads, or replying to posts. Not all
categories receive the same point values. You get way more points per post in the user newsgroups. This is because when you post there, it advertises our site.
