Filters are going to depend on what type you want. Hang on Back, or canister types. For the size, get a HOB with a flow rate in gph of around 800 or 900. For canister types look for a flow rating of 400 to 500 gph. As for media, that again is dependant upon which type of filter you actually buy.

For an 85 I'd go with a canister -- Gman likes the Rena (as you've probably read - -:D ); I go for the Magnum 350, because I've always had very, very good luck with Marineland (aquaria, inc.) equipment. I'm about a week into a new Mag350 for my Goldsaum tank, and I'm very impressed.

I prefer a canister and a HOB. I am currently running an XP3 Can. and 2 ac 500's, and a prefiltered 300gph powerhead on my 80g.

Hey folks. Why are you adding the 2 ac 500's? Does the xp3 need more umph? Mark, what about your Mag 350? Do you run it on its own, or is there some help as well?
