NO! You need a very porous materials and there all all kinds.
Lava rocks are cheap but i dont trust them[too much cleaning and need replaced often]..Seachen matrix is and very well informed choice, there are all type s of bio media out there. Just take your time and pick what is best for your needs.....

It is quiet but not silent i dont think any are, deminsions are 15t 9.5w 8 deep. I have had mine for a few weeks now, and i love it so much, i'm getting another for my 40g.I would recomend this filter to anyone! Great value and superb results! I am taking it apart this weekend to see how it is doing mech and bio.I will let you know;)

Maitenance today was early but just looking at filtration. I found it to be in very well condition. The only dirty part was bottum sponges, i rinsed them and put it back no prob took me a whole 10 minutes. I expect this filter really doesnt need to be cleaned but about once every 2 months or even more. Next cleaning im waiting for flowrate to slow down [might be awhile]:D Love this can

i too am a xp3 ownder today...i have to say it is kinda hard putting the tubes on...but other than that its easy and mine is very quiet, quieter than my hob
