For the Hang on Backs, you will need a flow rate of 10X, I think the 2 400's would be close to that. IMO it should be fine, as HOB types, you might want to do some price checking, to make sure you can't get a canister for less than the price of two hobs. Canisters only need a 5x rating.

For easy of operation, I would go with the hob's, first, you can servce each one individually, so if theres a problem you don't lose all your bio filters. Just one point to consider.

Hang on Back. Also known as HOT (Hang on Tank). For the longest time I thought a HOT filter was one that was stolen:D . Live and learn, eh?

There are pro's and cons to all types of filters. Canisters are nice, some performace is better than Hob's. They are easily hidden, so if you have a concern about esthetics, they are not visible, unlike the Hob’s. For sound, some are quieter than Hob's. So for someone who has these concerns, 20 bucks is not a big difference to pay. In my business, I am often surprised by ppl who will spend thousands of dollars more than they have to, just to get exactly what they want, not something that will do the same job. So for you, the Hob's might be fine, for another person, it might not be what they like, that does not make it "stupid", they are merely paying in order to get what they want.

I am not 100% sure of the XP3's rate, however you would need a rate of 5X your tank, 5x75=375 gph for a canister. When I wrote this post, I checked my pricing here, and it was cheaper for me to get a canister, and one small HoB, than two Emperor 400's. My price on the 400's was about 90 each, and I can get a canister for 130, plus I have a spare Hob so I don't need to buy one.

VERY good filter i have had one a few weeks and love it, it is so simple to maintain and setup. Flowrate is 350gph one of the strongest out there. For $99 you cant go wrong try this place http://www.bigalsonline.com www.bigalsonline.com
Canisters are the way to go so efficiant, and easy to work with, not seen, hold alot of media,......9.1 liters... I looked around for weeks and decided on XP3 and i made a very good choice.
