Jack Dempseys Have Babies

Getting them to tango...

Jack Dempseys Have Babies

Okay, I am a VERY novice fish owner. I was NOT trying to breed my fish and low and behold we have wigglers! What do I do?

We have a 150 gallon tank with 2 Dempseys, 2 fire mouths, 2 cory cats and a plecostamus (sp?).

I went out and bought a 10 gallon tank, pulled the filter off my son's tank (put a new one on his) and put a sponge around it, pulled water from the 150 gallon tank and put some small gravel in the 10.

My question, when do I move the wigglers? I know that I have to because my firemouth's are having a buffet and mom and dad Dempsey are getting worn out. Please help!!!!

Also, have an angel tank and THOSE are the ones I was trying to breed, but have no luck!!! Any suggestions?

It's more or less a matter of personal preferance.

Move wigglers = more you'll save but it makes for more work.

Move free swimming fry you end up with less but it's less work too.

Same tank? or in a different tank?

If you know theres a pair(s) Kick out any plecos that share the tank.
Angels usually spawn on a verticle surface - (same places plecos graze.)
DO frequesnt water changes.
Adding peat or blackwater extract usually helps angels get in the mood.
Make sure they have something to spawn on.

Okay, the babies are now a little over a month old and we have about 50 of the little suckers! Who do we sell them to? How big should we let them get before we try to sell them? Sorry for all the questions, but this is truly our first set of babies and from the way mom and dad are behaving, it doesn't look like it will be our last. Thanks.
