New Tank, Cloudy Water

Postby Indy on Sun Feb 13, 2005 10:31 pm

I just changed tanks from a 55gal to a 120 gal. I used the gravel from the 55 gal and had to add some new because of the size difference. I did my best to wash the new gravel as much as possible. The new gravel is brown. I am using the same filters and filter matter that was in the 55. I tried to use as much of the water from the 55 as possible and added what was needed. I used declorinator and Ph minus (because my tap water is too high).

The water in the new tank is very cloudy (white). Is this because of a bacteria bloom? If so will it hurt the fish? I will be doing daily 10% water changes until it gets clear. Is there any thing else I can do?

But honestly just moving media and gravel will not cycle your tank.. It will in fact help alot. Let us kknow the #'s on water

I am using 2 Emperor 400 Filters,
Water is Ammonia .25, Nitrite 0, Nitrate .20, Ph 8.0
I know the Ph is high, I have always been fighting that, any suggestions?
I am using tap water and I have a Water Softener.

Id guess it is just having a mini cycle because of ammonia reading . If you get a nitrite reading in next few days that is what it is. But all new tanks are usually cloudy for awhile..

You might also think about a little more filtration like a canister! 2 emp 400 isnt enough for that size tank with a good stock of fish
