for those who noticed I was gone, I am here again. As some of you know I am a Tulsa Police Officer, on January 7th I was shot in the line of duty during a drug bust. I took 3 shots total during a 5 minute period. I am still stuck in bed barely able to walk, It will all get better though. I was released from the hospital yesterday. My fish appear to be fine accept for the fact they havnt seen me for a while, you could tell they missed me, my wife said they havnt acted the same since I havnt been home. I still have my tank cycling and am in a hurry to get my fish moved into their new home. I have a couple friends coming over tomarrow to do that for me. My time will be very limited on here for the next couple months due to re-habilitation and medication that makes me loopy. Hopefully by the end of march I will be back to duty and everything will be the same. I hope everyone on here has healthy pets :)

God Bless,

Jeff

That was you that got shot? Wow. I live in Sherman, Texas, and that was all over the news for a while. We had you on the prayer request list at our church, but I didn't know it was you. Wow. Get well soon, seems kinda corny, so I'll leave it with a "we're praying for you."

Hey everyone,

My wife printed out this post for me to read lastnight, I want to thank all of you. Its great to see all the wishes of getting better from people who dont even actually know you besides what you let then know on here. My wife was crying lastnight when she read some of them, not knowing that I had not actually met any of you. You all have made us both emotional (hard to admit). We just wanted to say thank you and give you a update on things.

All my fish are great in their new tank. I cant feed them because I cant reach the top of the tank since I am wheelchair ridden, blasted peice of crap metal chair! I really want to walk and my p.therapist says in about a month I should be able to get on crutches, they pushed back my time of getting back on full duty until late June/early July. Next week I get to accept an accomadation which is great. My family and friends have been over allot helping out on the house why my wife trys to work. She is taking good care of all my pets aswell. God I love this woman. My dad is gonna be coming over to add a network system to my house to hook my laptop up in the room so I can get online more. So hopefully I can get back into the swing of things with all of you. Till then I have many a books to read and many hours of television in front of me. I really need to get off of here holding my arms up here to type is starting to hurt a little bit. Never knew it could take a person 27 mins to type a post this short.

Again we both appreciate everyones intrest me in getting better and the best wishes.

THANK YOU EVERYONE! :broke: :broke:

PS I didn't ask, and not really sure i should now, however being a Canadian, I never had any coverage of the unfortunate incident.
I hope the H*ll the person, or person's who shot you were caught.

Hi Jeff,
Good to hear you've got a good woman taking carfe of you! Try not to eat any junk food while you're recovering, time to go with those vegetables and fruit juices to clean out your system of any toxins and get your body to heal completely.

In the states its a requirement to use deadly force when a police officer is threaten'd or shot at. In my case there were 3 other officers who enterd the residence, I just happend to be in front of the one guy with the gun. Both officers directly behind me shot the suspect 5 times in total which ultimatly ended in his death at the scene. The other 2 suspects in the house were taken into custody without injury and problem. I dont remember allot about what happend just what has basically been re-told to me after I was out of surgery. We wernt actually even suposed to be at that house, we were called and told that there was a stabbing down the street and we were called to the scene, after arriving there we were told by the resident where the stabbing took place that they were cooking in the location, from there we went there and could smell them cooking "meth" at which point we enterd the residence. The 2 gentlemen arrested in the house were charged with "Drug Manufacturing with Intent, Possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled drug, possession of paraphanalia, no tax stamp, possession of a firearm with intent, possession of a firearm while being charged with a felony, and manufacturing withint 1000 feet of a school. My wife has got the news clipping of what happend and she has offerd to type it out on here and post a link to the whole article.

Funny you mention that Joe, she wont even let me eat what I like, she insist on salads, vegitable stew (no beef) :( and potatos! I really want my meats but the doctor has explained that eating meat could cause problems with my digestive tract and other complications.. Its all good tho, I get all the Ice cream I want lol. What really sucks the worse is I cant smoke anymore cigarettes for a while, needed to quit anyway but damn I realllllllllllllllllllllllllllly want one.

hope you get better really soon.

I am not supposed to agree with you, but I do. I will elaborate on this at a later time, its well past my bed time and this new network setup in my room is gonna piss off the wife if I dont let her get some sleep, its bad enough I keep her awake most of the night as it is.

Hey guys I dont mind talking about this at all, some of you could be hesitant to ask something, please dont be I really dont mind explaining or answering questions. I do it several times a day anyways it seems. The worst it really does to me is make me think about it, but to be honest I dont want to forget it happend like everyone wants me to do. To be completely honest the hardest thing is watching or listening to my wife and family cry as they think it could of been my last day on this earth, soon enough we are going to be talking about me going back to active duty, Sarah is already making mild remarks about me leaving the job.

Hope to talk to you all soon :)

Thanks for posting the what happened part. There are many who come to this site who would not know, or have even heard of the incident. I believe the use of deadly force requirements are pretty much the same here in Canada. The investigation after the use of deadly force here however, can be more traumatic sometimes then the actual incident. Unfortunate but true.

Sounds like your well on the long road to recovery.

As for the article, just a hint but you might just scan it to Word or some such program, then cut and paste it here. Might save some typing time.

Jeff, your doctor is right, lack of exercise/movement and other illness can reduce intestinal peristalsis movement. You really should stop with the smoking though, hope you can reduce your stress and be able to quit for good. If you eat no meat at all be sure to have eggs though. When you're off your other meds you may want to try some herbs like ginseng or cordyceps to re-energize. I'd recommend to stay away from anything herbal until you're off other drugs/meds. Pure juices would be good. Hope you get back to even better health than before!

Hi everyone, This is Jeff's wife Sarah. I had told Jeff that I was going to type out the story relevent to what happend. I just finished and thought I should go ahead and post it here for you to read. I hope I didnt make any mistakes.

Love Sarah

-Local police officer shot in line of duty-
-Sarah Slavick, Staff Writer-

The swirling lights of Officer Jeffery Baker's police car caught Kevin Johnson's attention as he approached the home of a stabbing suspect the evening of Jan. 7th. When the two bystandards had alerted Baker to a possible meth-lab down the block. Baker then called for back-up and headed to the home of a known drug dealer Richard Thiel Evans.
Baker had been shot three times by Richard Thiel Evans, 23, of Broken Arrow during a routine search of his home. While Baker examined Evans' home, Evans shot at him with a 380-caliber semi-automatic handgun from the back bedroom of the home, Tulsa Police Chief Randy Boehm said. Baker immediately went toward the rear of Evans' home. Evans shot again, striking him once and then twice more while he lie on the ground.
Boehm said the 1 shot was located above Baker's bullet proof vest and 2 were located in his right leg. Baker is being treated at St. Johns Medical Center.
When Johnson and Thien approached Baker, he was unconscious "lying in a pool of blood," Thien said. Johnson then used his radio to let fellow officers know an officer was down, Thien spoke to Baker to keep him calm and alert.
Evans was then shot 2 times while running away from the residence. He died later that afternoon at St. Johns Medical Center.
Evans had a previous criminal record. He was arrested in 2003 for possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana, in 1999 for property damage and in 1998 for a minor in possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
It was his first gun wounds, and Boehm said the shootings have had an effect on the police department.
"Our entire department has a family atmosphere," Boehm said. "I have been checking up pretty frequently, I have been to the hospital several times (to visit Baker)."
Baker's wife, Sarah, is staying with Baker at St. Johns Medical Center for the duration of her recovery and has not returned to back to work since the shooting.
Marijuana and a meth lab was found during a search of Evans' residence and vehicle. His parents, David and Kathy Evans, have released no public comment.

Hi Sarah! Thanks for all the details, it's unfortunate the bullets didn't just hit the vest but as I said who knows maybe some good will come out of this tragedy and Jeff will come out even healthier than before. Oh, if you print that article you may want to change the lie on the ground to "while he lay on the ground...". Might be some other errors but only one I remember, I read it yesterday. I'm glad the shooter didn't get away. Jeff, mind if I ask what medications you're currently on etc?
