What do you have and what do you really want, elaborate a little. I am getting an eheim canister to go with my 2 ac 500's personally.

I voted Marineland, but I use as much of the less-expensive Aqua Tech equipment as i can get away with!:)

I run two Whispers. 30-60's. I added in a common sponge, in place of the bag on one, the other I added medium into the bag. I have no water clarity, nor nitrate spikes. Pretty sure I maintain a good established bacteria colony. I like the variable water flow adjustment, I used to use (long time back) aquaclear, and also aqua tech's. Found the whispers to be quieter than my older models.

All 11 of my tanks have Emperors, 400 and 280, depending on the size of the tank. Most have 2-400 filters running as I have large American cichlids. I like the flow of the 280 as they don't slow down as fast as the 400.

I still run some in emergancies and sometimes on quaranteen tanks.


Other wise I run:
- a few wet/drys (sumps)
- a couple old whisper hangons (not the new junk they make)
- all of my breeding tanks not on a wet/dry have emp 400's :thumbsup:

Na,they're basically just a marineland line made for wal-mart and a few other stores.

Had an AquaClear once, but it died for no apparent reason while i was doing a water change, I was pouring fresh water in and it just stopped.  so I had to go out like right away and I got a penguin BIO-Wheel for that tank and it's still going strong.  I hope  my AquaClear Heaters don't do that, I have two and the tanks are in a chillier, more isolated room!

I have about 10 tanks the last time i looked  .. I have alot of different filterz.. I also use some aqua tech from walmart [good filters], have an  emp.400 and 280[work good nice media compartments],  2or3 Ac500/110's [very good filters]keep em clean or you get empellar noise,my fav so far on HOB's={Hang on Back/powerfilters}flexability is key;  2 penguins a 100 and 200w/biowheels[[not a problem out of em]; 1 skilter [interesting features]filters good and has a skimmer built in ;  2- XP3's by rena[best filters i own IMO] very quiet! large media baskets,flexibilityi n media and can go a long time before maintaining them. A+ ;Canisters are nice! But not really needed on smaller tanks IMO, but nice to have along with HOB's with larger oscar tanks 55g and bigger. I have 2 DIY sumps[1- 5 gal. and 1- 20gal. These are also nice for larger tanks with messier fish, also with your choice of HOB's. 
      I think all filters have there strong points as well as week ones, It is up to you to pair em up and/or select rite filter for you. Maitenence is key a feature for me.
