Postby Snoop5 on Fri Oct 08, 2004 3:58 am

Ok I hope this thread is in the right forum if not sorry I'm new. My problem is I've got a 30 gallon tank with one Oscar, I religisley clean the tank and do water changes every two weeks and my tank just reeks. If anybody has had this kind of problem before please let me know what you did to solve it.

Do you vacuum the gravel and clean your filters?? This is very important to do 'cuz their crap accumulates in the gravel and the filters.

You should do water changes at least once a week. Especially with a tank that small. With an adult/juvenile oscar a 30 gallon tank could get dirty really fast. They are very messy eaters and poop a lot :wow!. I suggest upgrading to at least a 55 gallon. Even with a 55 gallon it could get stinky pretty fast. Just keep up with the 20% water changes and gravel vacuuming. And make sure you have more than sufficient filtration.

:wow!

with my tank... i think its about 40 gals maybe more...either way

get a better filter, thats all there is too it, since ive had my filter (i think its an interpet external cannister, but with a fluval cannister internal as well trhe tank has never stunk, the water has never been cloudy, the fish are really healthy and the filter medium is really clean.

strangly every thing sems spotless, even under the wood and stones... beter filter, cleaner tank... that easy

Thanks for the input guys, I didn't realize the tank needed to be cleaned that much. I've stepped up the cleaned regiment and It really seems to be working. I am working on upgrading to a bigger tank as well, probably a 55 or bigger.
