I think the head guys should Jazz up the site a bit to encourage more traffic. I know since i joined the number of people posting etc has dropped considerably so how about it guys???

What would help? I've noticed that popular forums have a lot of smilies and other small graphics for people to "express" themselves, quite a few active people had left to go to worldcichlids.com and I think part of the appeal was the yabb/now SMC forums which had more intensive graphics/icons etc... If someone could find/steal some ....the other thing is that the forum is not being indexed by search engines, yet....I just haven't had the time to make the effort of converting it etc...

We've had discussions on how to improve things in some other threads but haven't really decided upon what the best thing to do would be ......

I've almost given up on the idea
but what are your thoughts on how to "jazz up the site"?


in the last few months
I tryed - seeing if memebers were interested in :
- new forum catagories
- active chatroom
- scheduled chats
- contests
none of that seemed to appeal to enough people to make it worth while.
Even after a member vote - I added a new catagory (predatory fish) which was voted as the most wanted new feature and now - it's RARELY used


If whats wanted isn't used it would seem overkill or a waste of time to add other features

If ANYONE has input ADD IT

I'll look into a few things today and see what can be done

trying to read the directions made me want to :comp: or just :violent: this machine.

A few updates have been made to the forum


If the features are used they will stay!
If they're not used there's no since in wasteing the space on the server

i dont know about adding new sections i think remove some like all the other hobbies and interest ones and have just one title like other topics....because they are rarely posted on
I know just to open that first page is daunting because there is so much writing and catagories, I think if you streamline it more people would be more tempted to look through more plus it would take up less server space...
We have an awful lot of members but very few posts compared to other forums etc.... lets make it more user friendly and easier to surf through

i was also thinking maybe having a section for pics instead of the seperate photo gallery at the top,
i know i usually forget its there and it would bring pictures of peoples hard work with their hobby up front and more noticable, and hopefully more people would look and make comments:cool:

I thought about the same thing before it's a
Good and Bad idea


Good - because it would fit the "normal" forum setups and MIGHT get used more then the gallery.


Bad - because - pics don't stay (they usually have a time limit on forums then get dumped) - the way it's setup now it's like a users gallery and referance guide.


Best left for discussion with cichlidfish since the gallery is a different database then the forums.

that way you only see the fish forums. Not sure if we should remove them because IF??:confused: we get more peple they might come in useful.....

but then you also loose the Usenet Newsgroups , I thought you wanted to keep those and keep them fairly active?

About the newsgroups, yea I think we should encourage more posting on there, I'll try and post some also. The idea is that the more people post on those newsgroups more people would come join. I think that's how Mark (Stone?) found cichlidfish.com

Not sure if this version of VB will let me make a forum a "link" but I can try something...I think it's a good idea to combine it with the rest....

One by one is the only option.

But even useing my :broke: Aol connection even the larger :sumo: smilies only take a second or two to upload
