Hurrican Charlie, no power to tank!!!!!

Postby dsoscars on Fri Aug 13, 2004 9:06 am

Hurricane Charlie is about 10 hours away and will hit my area directly. I will probably lose all power. Im going to use my back up battery from my comp for my tank but this will only buy me a few hours. My tank is 150 gallon, has 4 oscars ranging from 5 to 7 inches and one placustumus(spelling). Is there any way i can manually pump air (via bicycle pump) into the tank, and how long and often will i have to do it? any advise A.S.A.P. would be most appreciated. Power could be out for days.

If you have time - go buy a battery powered air pump.

Most fish stores carry them or department stores carry them in the fishing tackle section (bait airators).

They run on batteries and last 6hrs - a day depending on the type and type of batteries.

If you can't get one - anything that breaks the surface of the water will help - like - pumping air in,pouring water in ,etc..

Good Luck with the Hurricane, looks like a strong one

one tip we got during the floods a few years back is to fill a 2 litre bottle (screw on top) with hot water from the tap.

with your tank use a few bottles, the heat will radiate into the surrounding water and keep it a reasonablly warm temperature.

can you still buy those drinking bird things in america? theyll break the surface and atleast keep some oxygen

of somehow place a remote control boat so the little prop is in the water (or the wheel of a car) and just keep them spinning to create disturbance.

think of whats around your house or near by and youll come up with something

good luck
