Water Clarity

Postby ctclymore on Tue Jul 06, 2004 10:07 am

No matter what I seem to do I can not get rid of the "cloudy" look to my water.

Nitrite/Nitrate is zero

Ammonia is at zero

pH is at 8.2

Temp is 80-82

Any thoughts?

I have a 46 gallon "bow" tank with a penguin 330 for filtration.

Thanks.

this hardly seems an emergancy.

did you wash the gravel before putting it in the tank, does the filter need cleaning, are you over feeding the fish, are they digging???

too many variables, such a little problem

You know, it might not be an "emergency" but given the topic of some of the threads in this heading I didn't think it would hit someone the wrong way.

Yes - I cleaned the gravel

Yes - The filters are clean

No - I do not overfeed them

No - They are not digging.

It was a simple question, was just looking for suggestions, that's it.

Sorry if I put it in the wrong "Topic"

Its ok CTC, we all have this problem at sometime when we begin getting into the hobby and actually set up your first tank.

Since you are not overfeeding and the filters are clean then i think it might actually be the tap water you are using, it sounds a reasonable bet anyway.

I would suggest going down to your LFS and buying a product called AccuClear, it works within 24 hours and makes the water clear.

If you dont want to go down the chemical route then id say just leave the tank to mature, my oscar tank when first set up was horridly cloudy and just would not clear at all, now the tank has matured its clear as glass :)

How long has the tank been set up for? This is usually when a tank hasnt cycled completly when the cloudyness is there, If like said no overfeeding and such.Water params you said is 0 amm 0 nitrite and 0 nitrate? That says you have an uncycled tank ........
Cycled tank always has a nitrate reading.
