Spot on Oscars eye

Postby Qwietone on Sun May 09, 2004 11:51 am

I noticed this morning that our Oscar has a white spot thing on his eye. We are trying to determaine if it is something wrong or just something from tank stuck on it. We are fairly new Oscar owners and are still in the learning stage.....

I have the same thing on my Pacu. Several of the fish in the tank recently had Ick...in fact we lost several fish due to it.

But the left eye of my Pacu has a spot like that and the rest of the eye is really cloudy looking.

Pretty hard to tell from the pic, but he may have scratched the eye, and now it has fungus. I don't ever recall of ich on an eye, maybe someone else could answer that. Post your tanks ammo, nitrite, nitrate levels. High ammonia can cause similar things. A better pic would be a great help too.

Spot on Oscars eye

You have got the same problem with my one, i thought it was just a scratch untill it blew out all over his eye, and then it went white and he couldnt see out of it.
All i did was 20% water changes everyday for about 2 weeks, he is now fine and you cant even tell there was somthing wrong with him. I also stepped down on his feeding cause i wanted to keep the water clean as i could. Hope it helps.

I have raised the temp in my tank to about 82 and added some salt, coupled with a partial water change and the eye on my Pacu is starting to clear up. So there could be something to this whole "temp and salt" talk.

There is no doubt, salt is the cheapest, most effective method to keep your fish healthy!!
