Couple questions...

Postby mcgonagr on Mon Apr 12, 2004 8:05 pm

I got a some mollies a while ago for breeding... After having them about three weeks, they got ick. I'm pretty new at having fish and heard that it would clear up in a few days. When they started dying on me I realized I was wrong. I got some medicine for them and it's all cleared up now, but they haven't had any new babies for a month and a half now... Does ick make mollies go sterile?

Another question:
I have two tanks right now- a 29gal and a 55gal. I have mollies in the 29 gal and nothing in the other. I wanted to get something like oscars for the other but heard my tank is too small. I'd really appreciate any advice for getting some active/aggresive fish for my 55gal. I used to have tiger barbs, but they didn't quite cut it. I heard goldfish aren't good to use to feed other fish because of some toxin inside them. Is that true? Are mollies and platys ok to feed to other fish? Which breed better?

Thank you very much!

Welcome to the Forums!

No. But it does drain there health, so they won't have any babies until they are strong again.

I wanted to get something like oscars for the other but heard my tank is too small.

Some people won't agree but I have never had a problem keeping 2 Oscars in a 55. But that's it, maybe a pleco.

Well, I don't know about Toxin. But they can carry, disease's. If you are breeding Platys and Mollys for feed, then by far better.

Hope this helps.

Same here - I use alot more then "normal reccomended filtration" and do alot of water changes - but I keep pairs in 55's - have for years and have my best luck keeping them in 55's

BUT
if you don't have alot of filtration or time to keep up with water changes I wouldn't suggest it.
